What do we know about the coffee cups that people buy everyday? And why Travel Mug are better
to use and keep you warm on the go.
An average person drinks 1.6 cups of coffee per day and the average cost of a coffee cup is 3.45$. Most of
the people buy their coffee from the coffee shops on their way to work. There are millions of coffee shops
around the globe and they sell their coffee in paper cups.
Have you ever though what a paper cup is and how does it affect our environment? The main material
needed to make a paper cup is wood, which is a renewable resource. However, gathering wood has a direct
impact on the landscape – trees. In order to make paper cups, trees have to be cut down. However by cutting
down tree we reduce oxygen produced by each tree and each tree produced enough oxygen for 3 people.
Trees also protect the planet from further Global Warming.
Every year the consumption of paper cups grows at a rapid rate meaning that more and more tress have to
cut down in order to make them for us.
But paper cups are made to be used just ones, after which people throw them away to be recycled. Yes paper
cups are recycled, however looking at the statistics more of them are thrown to landfill, piling up and polluting
the world around us. More then 1 billion paper cups are thrown to landfill every year and they 5 -20 years to
breakdown in a landfill. Isn’t that scaring figure?
What can we do to reduce those figures? The solution given by the government is to have recycling bins and
throw all the paper cups into the recycling bins. However this didn’t make a huge impact to reduce the number.
The other solution would be to use the Travel Mugs that are made of plastic. Yes, plastic does have bad side
effects to the environment as well, however they can be used over 1000 times and don’t need to be thrown
away after a single use. Meaning that there would be more time to recycle the plastic Travel Mug before a new
one is thrown away. This would also mean referring to the above statement that an average person drinks 1.6
cups of coffee daily and an average cup costs 3.45$, that Travel Mugs would also positively affect the budget
of the owners. Because they wouldn’t need to pay extra money for the service that company takes when you
buy coffee.
